Beth's response to the consultation, she found this cathartic to do and is very happy to have an opportunity to have her say.

Consultation Questions
1 Do you think the current system for safeguarding children who are educated at home is adequate? Please let us know why you think that.

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Why would people go to the bother of home educating their kids before hurting them, they could just do it before and after school. I think children at school are more in danger from bullying and the teachers not understanding them and special needs provision being appaling.

2 a) Be healthy

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Of course, they are more likely to be healthy than school kids, because they get to choose their meals and the school meals are unhealthy and there is only one vegitarian option. At school you are not able to get enough exercise, at home you can go out when you want and do activities that you like a lot more than PE at school. School took away the only activity I found fun when I went up to year two.

2 b) Stay safe

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Yes because one of their parents or a responsible adult is always there, unlike at school where playground supervisors are not actually looking for trouble and miss a lot of things that go on. In fact they only seem to get involved in one side of a problem and do not listen to the other side.

2 c) Enjoy and achieve

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Because they are not stressed they can achieve whatever they want. They learn what they want at the speed they want and they are not forced to listen to things that go in one ear and out the other. The subjects children want to study just get pushed to one side at school so they can't follow the career that they want to. When children are home educated they can give their full attention to what they want and not what the teachers want.

2 d) Make a positive contribution.

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Of course they can, many school kids don't make a postive contribution. Because the teachers are asked to do too many subjects which means that the kids don't get a proper education in those subjects especially languages. I am now less shy and now talk to people I want to rather than hiding in the shadows and waiting for them to speak. I now have a lot more friends, at school I only had three and two of them bullied me.

2 e) achieve economic well-being

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
They will choose a career they like, they don't just want to make money they want to like their job and want to be involved and do well at it. They don't want to be a great business person and be unhappy. They want to actually feel involved in their job so they are not just sitting in an office typing words when they want to be doing a career that is competely different.

3 Do you think that Government and local authorities have an obligation to ensure that all children in this country are able to achieve the five outcomes? If you answered yes, how do you think Government should ensure this?.

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
I think you are not doing well enough at school. At school children don't achieve the goal they want they acheive the goals that govenment wants or don't. I think you should give them more chance to express themselves and let them take the subjects they really want too. Until all children in schools achieve these goals what right do you have to interfere with us..

4 Do you think there should be any changes made to the current system for supporting home educating families? If you answered yes, what should they be? If you answered no, why do you think that?

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
Home educated children should be given free equipment and be allowed to visit places for free, school children should be allowed this as well. But only if they choose to accept it.

5 Do you think there should be any changes made to the current system for monitoring home educating families? If you answered yes, what should they be? If you answered no, why do you think that?

Yes

No

Not Sure

Answer/Comments:
It is fine as it is without disturbing the families who are doing brilliantly at educating their child. When the home education inspector came round I felt like get out of my house. I have got out of school because i wasn't fitting in I don't need someone else to tell me what to do when i don't want to do it.

6 Some people have expressed concern that home education could be used as a cover for child abuse, forced marriage, domestic servitude or other forms of child neglect. What do you think Government should do to ensure this does not happen?

Answer/Comments:
Schools can be mentally abusive and after two years of home education I still haven't got over the fact that school treated me as dumb because I couldn't write or read or do maths properly even though they knew it was because of my learning differences, they couldn't understand me so I had to be dumb. This is because they are not trained properly to understand people who are just slightly different from them.

Lovely to read this. And what a good ad for home ed - articulate, straightforward, calm but forceful (and well spelt!) communication. 80)

Thanks Mand, sorry it has taken so long for me to reply, I am just a bit overwhelmed by all this and trying to read as much as I can to make sure I do everything possible to stop the b?&*(%s from getting monitoring made lawful.

So don't dare reply to this one too! I wasn't waiting for you to. Keep up the good work n focus your energies where they're most needed: b?&*(%-fighting and parenting. The one feeds the other, n vice versa. Thank heavens, in a way, that the home ed community is already used to networking and supporting each other - this situation must be overwhelming indeed.
